PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), after all these years, have finally come up with an idea that suggests milking cows is an act of cruelty: an attempt to reduce these suffering for cows started with asking ice cream company, Ben & Jerry's, to begin using breast milk for their product instead of cow milk. After taking a glimpse of their point of view, I feel that PETA has made a rather ridiculous move in asking for this favor. To recommend a change in such an old tradition of all cultures is a bold move. Especially with only two main arguments, PETA seems to be a little premature for initiating this consult. Ice cream is a dessert enjoyed by everyone and has been enjoyed for millenniums. The first tracing of any idea close to our modern day ice cream dates back to 300 B.C., and the first tracing of an ice combined with milk composition came from China in the seventh century. The milk is a crucial ingredient for ice cream. Not only does milk give this favorite dessert it’s creaminess, but also has health benefits too. Milk, due to the calcium content, can prevent bone diseases, colon cancer, and even reduces the risk of tooth decay. Cows have been destined as farm animals ever since the Neolithic revolution, where humans started to settle and farm: never in human history has cow domestication and milking become an act of cruelty. Also, if breast milk was to be used in replacement of cow milk, who would be the ones providing milk for the world? Besides, cows are way better at producing milk than humans anyway! PETA needs to prioritize human needs since we ARE the dominant race.
